Contact Lens Evaluation and Fitting Policy
When a patient elects to wear contact lenses instead of glasses, an additional evaluation is required to determine the appropriate type and size of lenses. This evaluation is referred to as a contact lens fitting. Please note that this service involves an additional fee annually, which varies based on the complexity of the fitting, the prescription, and the type of contact lenses selected.
The first step in the fitting process involves precise measurements of the eyes to ensure proper lens fit. Patients will also be scheduled for a contact lens training appointment with an optician. During this visit, patients will receive instruction on proper lens insertion, removal, and cleaning techniques.
In many cases, trial lenses will be provided to assess comfort and fit. A follow-up appointment with the provider is typically required to evaluate the lenses and ensure they are functioning well before a final contact lens prescription is issued.
Contact Lens Insertion and Removal Requirements
Patients new to contact lenses must be able to independently insert, remove, and reinsert their lenses prior to completing the fitting process and seeing the provider for final evaluation.
For safety reasons, if a patient is unable to successfully insert and remove the lenses by the end of the training session, an additional training appointment may be scheduled. We recommend allowing approximately one week between training sessions. After three unsuccessful training attempts, patients will generally be required to wait one year before attempting contact lens wear again, unless otherwise directed by the provider.
Trial Period and Prescription Finalization
Once trial lenses are dispensed, patients have 60 days to evaluate their comfort and vision. We only provide trial contact lenses until your prescription has been finalized by your provider, this is because open boxes of contact lenses cannot be returned. During this time, patients should notify the office of any concerns or desired adjustments. After both the patient and provider are satisfied with the lenses, a finalized prescription will be issued, and contact lenses may be ordered.
